Unfinished
Black Adoption Story

“Unfinished Black Adoption Story” follows filmmaker Tracye A. Matthews’ 25 years+ journey to make a documentary film telling the story of her 1966 adoption by a Black family in Detroit. Her super-long-form creative process collides with administrative and legal roadblocks; emotional break-thrus, break ups and dead ends; deaths and more deaths; insecurity and imposter syndrome; and DNA discoveries. Ultimately, all roads lead back to her, often standing in her own way and fearing the vulnerability required for personal truth-telling in public.

Projected release date: Fall 2026
